Rob Greenfield has dived into 1,000’s of dumpsters across the USA to show the world just how much food is being wasted. Now he blows the lid in this TEDx talk.
For a deeper look into food waste, detailed information on the problem and solutions, how to get involved, food rescue programs, dumpster diving, and more go to Rob’s Food Waste Activism and Dumpster Diving Resource Guide.
Update: Watch Rob’s second TEDx, Be the Change in a Messed up World:
awesome !
Keep up the good work Rob!
Thanks for sharing your food waste awarenesses!
Congrats on your presentation on TEDx Talk!
I love what you do. You have helped erase the stigma of eating out of things not supposed to be thrown out in the first place.
Great talk Rob! I'm especially excited to see you capture some of the hippy vibe of the 60's. You have energy, focus, and commitment to make a positive impact in our lives.
Thank you,,,,,
Great Talk!!! Keep the motivation going. Thank you!!
You're the man! Thank you for the inspiration.
Hey Rob do you know if the protection from liability is the same in England? I watch TED Talks often and it was really great to see you up there. peace
This is great! You are making the difference.
The video and talk was awesome! Love what you are doing! Keep up the great work!
This is awesome, keep it up!
You are awesome! Thank you for helping open peoples eyes and minds to how much food we waste. I'm gonna start being more aware of what I throw out and not be picky at the supermarket 🙂
Way to go Rob! Thanks for sharing your message–and your research–to support your message. It's very sobering information. It's also very inspiring.
Its not good food if its grown with CHEMICALS! If its ecological food , which is food that is grown which helps the land, climate, our health. Permaculture, Agroforestry all produce good food!
Strong presentation
great talk Rob. Donate not dump!!
I'm not sure what the deal is in England with liability however there I know that many stores do donate there. Check out http://www.Feedbackglobal.org
Well there is a ton of quality organic food going into the dumpsters too my friend. I'm no advocate of junk food but if it's made it shouldn't be wasted either.
This pops on my wall just after someone shares this horribleness 🙁https://www.facebook.com/gary.schlesinger1/posts/1106936669336604
Rob you are my hero. I love all you have done. Many blessings!
WooHoo! love the research and mythbusting. I've been told that so often by grocery stores that I can't even take out lettuce leaves for my chickens! Madness!
Is it OK to eat a piece of food already bitten by somebody else?

Hey Rob, isn't this a double edged sword? If you single-handedly end food waste, what are we Freegans going to eat? Just kidding! I don't like the waste any more than you do. And just between you and me, even for all your efforts, I don't see the huge corporations putting an end to their waste anytime soon. What I do think will happen is that they will go out of their way to hide it better (ie: trash compactors instead of dumpsters, tighter security around their garbage areas, etc). Yeah, I'm cynical, I know. Human society has made me that way. Sorry. I don't have much faith in Mankind anymore. However, you and Mark Boyle are quickly restoring my faith in people, albeit at a snail's pace. Damn, I'd love to follow you around on your adventures! Teach me your green ways, oh master! Yeah, I've been vegan since 1989… animal welfare advocate, environmentalist, and green enthusiast. I'm tying up the final details even as we speak, going to quit my job, and become a moneyless freegan full-time! Maybe our paths will cross one of these days; I certainly hope so. By the way, awesome lecture! Keep up the good work, bro!
Rob,I love what you do!!!! You are an inspiration to all of us. Let us follow your great example in CHANGE and PERCEPTION.
Great information thanks for the tips.
