Swale Floating Garden

This is Swale, the floating garden that travels through New York City. Built on an old barge once used for hauling sand, it now travels to food deserts where there’s little access to fresh food. People can come aboard and pick healthy food for free!

There are over 500 varieties of plants on the floating garden: fruit trees, vegetables, medicinal plants, and more! Visitors connect with their food in a way they can’t at the grocery store. The barge has solar panels to pump water from the river and a purification system to provide clean water for all of the plants. Swale advocates for food to be grown on public land and aims to transform food deserts into food paradises. Share this video if you think everyone should have access to fresh, healthy food!
