Martin Luther King

Inspiration

Martin Luther King has inspired me to take a stand for what is just and to always use love to overcome hate and injustice. Power lies in the individuals and it is our responsibility to come together in masses to fight unjust systems and corporations. If you are not taking action to be a part of the solution then you are a part of the problem.

These quotes by MLK represent my beliefs and actions and have in part shaped me into who I am today.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”

“Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”

“The time is always right to do what is right.”

“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.”

“Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.”

“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.”

“A man can’t ride your back unless it’s bent.”

“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.”

“He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.”

“The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood.”

“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”

“The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.”

“Almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better.”
